2023 has been very good for DC Comics. The publisher unleashed the Dawn Of DC publishing initiative on readers, bringing back classic characters and ideas. While the publishing initiative before Dawn Of DC – Infinite Frontier – has some great comics, many fans weren’t happy with its Batman-centric feel. While it’s impossible to have DC without a lot of Batman titles – Batman sells comics – Dawn Of DC has been making fans happy by giving readers a DC Multiverse that is more like the good old days of the pre-Flashpoint DC.While there are certain books that everyone knew were going to be great, there has also been a score of books that are very underrated. Superman, World’s Finest, Action Comics, The Flash, and Batman were stacked with talent and everyone knew they’d be quality reads. However, there are plenty of books that are just as good, if not better, from 2023 DC Comics.Superman: Lost is a very different Superman story. Priest uses science – namely time dilation when moving at superluminal speeds – to explain why Superman got home so quickly yet had so many years of memories. The book followed Superman as he struggled to get home, recharging and helping planets along the way. The Superman of the present is suffering from the years of loneliness, his failures on the road home, and a promise he made to a dying world. Things take a turn when Lois Lane asks for help with her despondent husband from Lex Luthor, throwing a deadly curveball into the mix. Superman with PTSD is an interesting look at the character, who is too often portrayed as more super than man. Superman: Lost is prime Superman, from the amazing writing to Pagulayan’s breathtaking art.
