Archie Sundays: Archie’s Christmas Pal, Jingles, Gains an Arch-Enemy

Every week, we share a preview of the newest Archie Comics releases that week, plus occasional spotlights on the latest Archie news and whatever else I feel like discussing, Archie-wise. This time around, we’re looking at Archie Christmas Spectacular 2023, which shows the introduction of Jingles and Sugarplum’s arch-rivals, Jangles and Sourplum! This week also has World of Betty and Veronica Jumbo Comics Digest #31, which has a new story showing a team-up of the original Jaguar with the new Jaguar, plus an interesting look into Archie’s possible future.Well, in the late 1950s/early 1960s, one of the top humor artists in the comic book industry, Dan DeCarlo, moved over to Archie Comics from Atlas Comics (now Marvel Comics) along with his longtime inker, Rudy Lapick, and, just like how Doyle became the de facto head writer of the company, DeCarlo and Lapick became the de facto head artists of the company. DeCarlo drew thousands of pieces for Archie and, through the work of Lapick (who would ink the newer artists), the DeCarlo style of art soon became the almost “house style” for Archie Comics, as newer artists would draw in DeCarlo’s style. DeCarlo would also introduce a number of major characters for Archie, including Josie and the Pussycats.
