However, something that sets those feuds apart from comic strip feuds, which we’re about to discuss, is that most of those instances are when people have to actually actively interact with each other. It is hard to get a feud to simmer down when you’re acting opposite someone every day (unless you want to get creative with green screens, a la The Good Wife).
Of course, that’s different from, say, the famous Al Capp and Ham Fisher feud, where Fisher, the creator of the popular Joe Palooka comic strip was looking for a new assistant during the height of the Great Depression and he just happened to bump into Capp when Fisher was driving in New York City when he saw Capp walking in the street. He asked Capp to come into his car, at which point he asked if Capp was a cartoonist (since he recognized the paper Capp was using to cover his comic strip samples). Capp said yes, Fisher took him to his home and had him do some samples and Fisher hired him on the spot. Later in 1933, Capp drew the first appearance of a hillbilly character in Joe Palooka named Big Leviticus…
