Did Marvel’s Gang War Just Bring Back Wolverine’s Other Daughter?

Since the moment open war was declared between the organized gangs of costumed criminals who call New York City their home, nearly every block has been engulfed in the kind of brazen violence rarely seen in mass. While Marvel’s Gang War has paved the way for NYC’s major players to carve out new territory for themselves, it has also given former D-listers and other obscure villains a chance to make a name for themselves all over again. Worse still, the latest of the latter to return to action just so happens to be one of the most lethal mutants of all time, and she is far more concerned with cutting down Daredevil than any Wolverine family reunion.Daredevil: Gang War #2 (by Erica Schultz, Sergio Dávila, Sean Parsons, Ceci De La Cruz, and VC’s Clayton Cowles) finds Elektra facing off against one of the city’s latest gangs led by none other than disgraced former officer Rafael Scarfe. When Scarfe unleashes a high-tech weapon capable of untold destruction, Elektra can only run for cover. After seeing what this kind of firepower can do for himself, Scarfe turns the weapon on the very same mercenary who was hired to act as a middle-man between the would-be supervillain and his supplier, Madame Masque. Unfortunately for him, said mercenary doesn’t have any qualms with cutting a client’s arm off with her claws when their trigger finger gets itchy in her direction. Unsurprisingly, Elektra can only wonder how this new villain could possibly have blades matching Wolverine, whereas fans of the mutant hero’s genetic descendants know all too well that Bellona has always been full of surprises. At the time, the Sisters were led by the eldest of them, Zelda, who had orchestrated their escape after deducing that the procedures they were being subjected to were slowly killing all of them due to their mutations having not yet manifested. In the months that followed the Sisters attaining their freedom, they came into conflict with X-23, whose outsider perspective on the proceedings led her to assume they were acting as villains in some capacity. Once X-23 realized the truth of the matter, however, she had no problem helping them strike back against Alchemax, especially when she learned that her sadistic former handler Kimura was the one charged with watching over the Sisters. By the time the dust had settled, Laura was able to walk free with the youngest of the Sisters, Gabby, albeit only thanks to the other surviving Sister, Bellona, staying behind under Kimura’s watch in a truly heartbreaking exchange.
