Every Member of Marvel’s NYX Team, Explained

The Krakoan Era is officially over, and mutants worldwide are now figuring out exactly what comes next for them. While some have had an easy enough time getting back into action, others are more than happy to settle into a less explosive lifestyle where they can.
Unfortunately for most of the eponymous heroes of NYX #1 (by Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Francesco Mortarino, Raúl Angulo, and VC’s Joe Sabino), the Big Apple is far from the kind of city where someone can escape their superpowered problems. And while this new super team’s beginnings are about as humble as they come, it is only a matter of time before the tension starts ramping up for everyone.
Apart from personal betrayals and a couple of broken hearts, Kamala is one of the ever-expanding list of Marvel superheroes who know exactly what it is like to lose their life. During the villainous Emissary’s rampage through New York City, Kamala sacrificed herself while impersonating Mary Jane Watson, hoping to buy the latter time to escape. As shocking as this was, it allowed for the revelation that Kamala Khan carried her own X-gene on top of her latent Inhuman lineage. As such, she could be resurrected as Marvel’s then-latest mutant. Of course, the increased antimutant sentiment that came with Orchis’s rise means that Ms. Marvel’s new lease on life hasn’t been easy, although at least one of her new mutant friends is sure to help.
