CBR has an exclusive first look at pages from the upcoming comedy-horror hybrid graphic novel Goobers. Published by Vault Comics, Goobers is written by Cody Ziglar and features art by Ryan Lee.
Vault Comics describes Goobers as a “comedy-horror hybrid series that’s part Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Attack the Block, and Nope.” The graphic novel stars Clayton Lowe as he heads back to his small Southern hometown of Pine Cove after trying to leave it behind. His new friends from grad school soon meet his old friends from high school and discover a terrifying new reality: Pine Cove is now ground zero for “an infestation of body-snatching alien bugs.” Goobers is scheduled to be released on March 18, 2025.
Goobers writer Cody Ziglar, a writers’ room mainstay for Rick & Morty and Futurama, recently relaunched Marvel’s Deadpool comics ahead of Deadpool & Wolverine. Ziglar spoke about his love for horror films and infusing it with his past growing up in a small town for Goobers. “I love being able to smash some of my favorite genres, movies, and comics together with my love of North Carolina. I also loved being able to voice the frustration of growing up in a small town and being self-conscious about what they thought of me and how I lived my life.”
