Five Times Doctor Doom Made a Dramatic Last Page Reveal

In the latest Drawing Crazy Patterns, where we spotlight five recurring themes in comics, we examine five times that Doctor Doom made a dramatic reveal on the final page of a comic book. Recently, I did a Drawing Crazy Patterns about shocking last page reveals featuring the villainous lord of Apokolips, Darkseid. This, of course, follows in the footsteps of a much older Drawing Crazy Patterns that I did almost THIRTEEN YEARS AGO (are ALL of my features now super old? Geez louise) about times that Magneto made shocking final page reveals in the comics. I knew that Magneto was well known for that sort of thing (hence me doing the piece on him among my very first Drawing Crazy Patterns), but when a reader asked me to do a similar list for Doctor Doom (I don’t have the name of the reader – remember, folks, unless you e-mail me, I can’t be sure to give you credit, as it’s very difficult to find social media comments after the fact. If you don’t care about credit, then just keep it up, no worries), I figured that it would be simple enough. In Daredevil #35 (by Gene Colan, Stan Lee and Frank Giacoia), the Trapster comes to Nelson and Murdock to get them to get him Daredevil (this was during the bizarre period where Matt Murdock was pretending that he had a twin brother named Mike who was secretly Daredevil). Trapster then tries to impersonate Daredevil to break into the Fantastic Four’s home. The real Daredevil stops him, and the two have a big ol’ fight in Daredevil #36. At the end of the fight, Daredevil manages to knock out Trapster, but he injures himself in the process, as well, and falls out of sight, so when the cops show up to take Trapster into custody, they don’t see Daredevil…
