Wein’s original conception of the character was that his super-power, besides his animal senses and speed (and the Adamantium claws that he had with him), was the fact that he just was too tough to lose. Originally, Wein didn’t think of Wolverine having a healing power, per se, just an ability to take more of a beating than someone his size could normally abide by.
