Perhaps best known as the predecessor of Hal Jordan (chosen by his ring as his replacement), Abin Sur first appeared in John Broome and Gil Kane’s 1959 comic Showcase #22. A native of the planet of Ungara, he is appointed by the guardians as the green lantern of Space Sector 2814. Created two years later after Abin Sur by Broome and Kane, the Xudarian Tomar-Re debuted in Green Lantern #6. A former scientist, he became the Green Lantern of Sector 2813.
