Madame Web is officially joining Spider-Woman in the search for her missing son. After being thrown from the window of a towering skyscraper in the previous issue, Spider-Woman #3 finds the titular hero falling through the air with no hope of saving her own life. Luckily, Madame Web just so happens to be right around the corner, not to mention more than capable of saving Jessica Drew from what would otherwise be an untimely demise. More importantly, Madame Web can reassure Spider-Woman that she isn’t losing her mind when she says she has a son that the rest of the world seems to have forgotten. The current Madame Web, Julia Carpenter, first appeared as little more than a shadow in 1984’s Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #6 by writer Jim Shooter and artist Mike Zeck. Not long after, Julia revealed herself in full as the then-latest Spider-Woman. Having gained impossible physical prowess as an unwitting test subject experimented on by future O.N.E. director Val Cooper. In the years that followed, Julia would trade her mantle of Spider-Woman for that of Arachne, but it wasn’t until after the original Madame Web’s demise that she inherited that particular title and the additional powers to go along with it.
