Marvel’s Dead X-Men just stumbled into the multiverse’s next worst timeline.Dead X-Men #1 brings a new lineup of Dazzler, Jubilee, Frenzy, Prodigy, and Cannonball tearing through a portal in space and time, only to set foot in a version of New York City that has been all but razed to the ground by war. Soon enough, the heroes are attacked by roving demons, the agents of none other than Illyana Rasputin, better known as Magik. As it turns out, this particular timeline, accessed through the use of the Moira Engine, is one in which Illyana seized the mantle of Lord of All Hells, as well as complete and total control of Earth, leaving the heroes to declare the timeline a waste before making their daring escape back to the remnants of Krakoa that reside within the infinite expanse of the White Hot Room. The technology known as the Moira Engine, crafted by Mister Sinister from numerous comatose clones of Moira MacTaggert, was first seen in the pages of 2022’s Immortal X-Men #1 by writer Kieron Gillen and artist Lucas Werneck. By having these clones keyed into specific points in time, Sinister was capable of using Moira’s mutant ability of self-resurrection to strategically reset his timeline whenever necessary.
