The Guardians of the Galaxy are Heading Into Star-Lord’s Most Personal (And Tragic) Battle

Complex family lives are nothing new to the heroes of the Marvel Universe, especially not to the Guardians of the Galaxy. At this point, it seems as though every single member of the team has had to come to terms with the exceptionally unnerving circumstances they have to deal with in that regard. That being said, not every Guardian has been successful in doing so, least of all Peter Quill, especially now that his very own long-lost sibling is on track to be the death of all of them. Not long after becoming a part of the sprawling, seemingly lethal Grootfall for themselves, the eponymous heroes of Guardians of the Galaxy #8 (by Collin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing, Kev Walker, Walden Wong, Matt Hollingsworth, and VC’s Cory Petit) are surprisingly back to fighting against a familiar enemy as if nothing ever happened. Unfortunately, the apparent alien menace known as the Whitecaps aren’t nearly as bad as they seem, nor are they the kind of threat that the Guardians truly need to concern themselves with. What is, however, is the impending armada of Spartax warships being led by none other than Peter Quill’s sister Queen Victoria, who has no intention of letting her brother or any of his allies survive what she is bringing their way. While J’Son was desperate for Peter to take up the role of emperor and lead Spartax into a new era of greatness, Peter himself wanted nothing to do with waging war on other worlds, let alone lording over an entire galaxy. Unsurprisingly, Peter’s refusal didn’t leave him and his father on particularly good terms. It certainly didn’t help that Peter would eventually be the one behind the rest of the Spartax Empire rebelling against J’Son and unseating him from his throne. Luckily for the former emperor, Peter wasn’t his only child, and his daughter Victoria quickly proved that she was every bit the coldly calculating regent that her brother could never be.
