Over the past few months, Doctor Strange has grappled with all manner of formerly unthinkable foes, ranging from undead heroes and villains to the worst possible incarnation of his own future self. Along the way, he has had his loving and eternally loyal wife Clea standing right alongside him, or at the very least looking on from afar. Of course, that doesn’t mean that Clea’s every waking moment has been devoted to helping her beloved out in the open, especially not when she is more than capable of doing so from the shadows. Unfortunately, the latter of those two options has also set some truly dangerous sights upon the Sorcerer Supreme of the Dark Dimension, and she will go to any lengths necessary to keep them from him.Although Doctor Strange #10 (by Jed MacKay, Pasqual Ferry, Heather Moore, and VC’s Cory Petit) sees its eponymous hero and his psychedelic allies dash the plans of the villainous, near unstoppable General Strange of an alternate future, that isn’t nearly as shocking as the compassion shown to the latter after the fact. While Doctor Strange is more than happy to treat his other self as a patient, that he does stands as a stark sign of just how far removed he is from his Faltine bride, Clea. This isn’t something Clea is particularly hesitant to talk about with others, especially not those who already know so many of her secrets. When approached later on by current W.A.N.D. Director Pandora Peters, Clea openly admits to having planned her own assassination of the villainous sorcerer Aggamon, albeit not one that ever came to fruition thanks to the presence of General Strange. More importantly, Clea makes it perfectly clear that she has no qualms about killing whoever gets between her and the love of her life. Then again, that really shouldn’t come as any surprise considering Clea’s position as the self-appointed Warlord of Manhattan, let alone that of the Sorcerer Supreme of the Dark Dimension.Despite the trials and tribulations that plagued Clea and Strange’s relationship, the two would eventually be wed in a ceremony that was as convoluted as their marriage would soon become. As the then ruler of the Dark Dimension, which was under constant threat of being taken over by Dormammu, Clea was forced to split her time between Earth and her native realm. This drove a deep wedge between the couple, and while they were able to reconcile the majority of the issues that arose from such an arrangement, they very nearly annulled their marriage entirely. Despite avoiding that particular end, one deal with Mephisto was all it took for Clea to lose her memories of their time together, effectively eradicating any hope they had of finding happiness in this life. As such, it was fortunate when Doctor Strange met an untimely end, as his death broke all the spells and mystical contracts he had signed his name to, including the deal with Mephisto. This opened the door for Clea to not only return to Earth and avenge her beloved, but to take his place as the Sorcerer Supreme of Earth until she could bring him back to reclaim it.
